Dr. Romero has been a member of the Faculty of Law at the World Maritime University since 2011 and currently serves as the Head of the Maritime Law and Policy Specialization. She received her Law degree from the Andrés Bello Catholic University in Venezuela and an LL.M. degree from Tulane University in the U.S. before earning a Ph.D. with honours (cum laude) from Leibniz Universität Hannover in Germany.
With firsthand professional experience both as a delegate at international forums representing her homeland and in the classroom, Dr. Romero brings a unique perspective to the Maritime Law and Policy Specialization. She lectures on International Organizations and Maritime Conventions, the Law of the Sea, and the Protection of the Marine Environment and oversees these courses. In addition, she organizes the annual Moot Court Competition, which focuses on current issues of the Law of the Sea, along with a field study trip to The Hague and Hamburg. She has also been invited to lecture at the IFLOS Summer Academy at ITLOS in Hamburg, Germany.
Dr. Romero places great importance on cooperation activities with Latin America and the Caribbean and has already organized two regional conferences there: the “Maritime and Port Sectors in the Americas: Challenges and Opportunities in Light of the SDGs”; conference in Lima, Peru in 2017 and the “Second Regional Conference: Maritime Transport and Ocean Policies: Regional Perspectives for the Americas”; in Veracruz, Mexico in 2019. Her latest book, “The Agenda 2030 and the Ibero-American Maritime Law”, includes a collection of monographs written by Latin-American experts who reflect on the progress in their country of some of the 17 Objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, together with the developments and unification of maritime law.
La Dra. Romero ha sido miembro de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Marítima Mundial desde 2011 y actualmente se desempeña como Jefa de la Especialización en Derecho y Política Marítima. Recibió su título de Abogada de la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello en Venezuela y un LL.M. Licenciada por la Universidad de Tulane en EE. UU. antes de obtener un doctorado. con honores (cum laude) de Leibniz Universität Hannover en Alemania.
Con experiencia profesional de primera mano tanto como delegada en foros internacionales representando a su país como en el aula, la Dra. Romero aporta una perspectiva única a la Especialización en Derecho y Política Marítima. Imparte conferencias sobre organizaciones internacionales y convenios marítimos, el derecho del mar y la protección del medio marino y supervisa estos cursos. Además, organiza el concurso anual de tribunales simulados, que se centra en cuestiones actuales del Derecho del Mar, junto con un viaje de estudio a La Haya y Hamburgo. También ha sido invitada a dar conferencias en la Academia de Verano IFLOS en TIDM en Hamburgo, Alemania.
La Dra. Romero otorga gran importancia a las actividades de cooperación con América Latina y el Caribe y ha organizado allí dos conferencias regionales: “Sector Marítimo y Portuario en las Américas: Desafíos y Oportunidades a la Luz de los ODS” conferencia en Lima, Perú en 2017 y “Segunda Conferencia Regional: Transporte Marítimo y Políticas Oceánicas: Perspectivas Regionales para las Américas”; en Veracruz, México en 2019. Su último libro, “La Agenda 2030 y el Derecho Marítimo Iberoamericano”, incluye una colección de monografías escritas por expertos latinoamericanos que reflexionan sobre el avance en su país de algunos de los 17 Objetivos de la Agenda 2030 de Naciones Unidas, junto con la evolución y unificación del derecho marítimo.
