Ms. Ore Toua hails from Papua New Guinea (PNG), she is the first female PNG graduate with a Master of Science in Maritime Affairs from the World Maritime University (WMU) in 2014 and the first female Pacific Islander with the Post Graduate Diploma in Maritime Energy Management earned from WMU in 2017. She is currently the Maritime Training Adviser, Ocean & Maritime Programme, Geoscience, Energy & Maritime Division of Pacific Community (SPC), and the GHG Officer, Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre, MTCC Pacific.
She has over 10 years of experience in training and capacity development both nationally and regionally in her work with the Maritime Sector. She has been involved with the design, development and delivery of training programmes including evaluation. She has also been involved in providing technical assistance to training institutes to develop training management systems aligned with various standards Furthermore, she has also worked with Pacific regional accreditation agencies on development and approval of qualifications. She has demonstrated experience and knowledge in developing and designing training materials conducting training, maintaining training records and analysis of training information for future improvement of skills and capacity in focus areas.
Ore has been instrumental in the relaunch of the Pacific Women in Maritime Association (PacWIMA) in April 2016 in Tonga. This regional network has flourished and has grown with greater visibility and support. Ore provides oversight and guidance to PacWIMA as part of SPC gender mainstreaming efforts in the maritime sector. PacWIMA to date, has now eight (8) national women in maritime associations established and operationalised , in Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall islands, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu. This is a reflection of the strong support, cooperation and coordination efforts among SPC, IMO, regional partners and the maritime administrations in the region.
