Julie Gascon

Director General of Operations, Canadian Coast Guard

She holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from the University of Montreal (Hautes Études Commerciales) and a Bachelor of Technology in Nautical Sciences from the University College of Cape Breton.

A graduate of the Canadian Coast Guard College (class of 1998), Ms. Gascon began her career in the Public Service as an officer in what was then Coast Guard Pacific region. She also sailed in the commercial fleet on Very Large Crude Carriers and Large Passenger Vessels to complete the sea time required for her Master Mariner Certification, which she finished in 2005.

Ms. Gascon then joined Transport Canada where she held several roles of increasing responsibility, from Senior Marine Safety Inspector to Executive Director, Domestic Vessel Regulatory Oversight and Boating Safety prior to returning to the Canadian Coast Guard as Assistant Commissioner, Central and Arctic Region in 2015.

She began her functions as Director General, Operations in June 2018, where she is responsible to provide functional direction for the operational policy frameworks and associated cost – effective delivery of Canadian Coast Guard Programs and services across Canada. These include: Incident Management, Marine Programs, Fleet Management, as well as Maritime Security. She also provides functional direction to support the effective delivery of science programs and relationship with key partners.
