ABSTRACT

Our research examines whether an enabling environment for gender equality exists within the Caribbean Maritime Sector. The research engages women in select ports to identify the opportunities and challenges surrounding our active participation in decision-making. The research will also examine applicable policies, legislation, and other documentation at country levels, and within the international domain for comparative analyses. The study will include the proposal of overarching goals for enhancing gender equality at targeted seaports that will be applicable to women in management as well as other levels of economic participation. Ultimately, this paper intends to make recommendations and proposals to improve gender rights and equality and support the basis for the establishment of a Code of Conduct for Gender Mainstreaming in the Caribbean maritime sector.
