ABSTRACT

Women had been placing in Turkish maritime industry since the beginning of 1970s where they worked in different roles of shipping, chartering, brokerage, seafaring, technical departments and naval architecture. Climbing up the ladders in their career paths had full of big challenges which some of them reduced year by year while new ones have been involved due to evolution of the industry. Big challenges created big contribution and power for Turkish maritime women to prove their managerial skills in different fields of Turkish maritime industry. This study reflects how Turkish women have survived in maritime industry so far and enlightens gender related problems that have been faced in a male-dominated sector. By this end, fighting against sexual discrimination has always been a mission for maritime women to show their crucial existence either on board or ashore. Technology is an absolute method to provide more affective and sustainable solutions to women’s occupational problems and enwidening rights. Innovations have been developed fast and women-based applications keep an utmost role for promoting more women into the sector and setting up an integrated network in global area. Existing challenges will alter the route to new projects and ideas to show women’s power in various fields of shipping business. It is time to say the opinions ‘loudly’ as ‘woman’ is indispensably need for ‘human’.
