The World Maritime University (WMU) was established in 1983 within the framework of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations. The University is committed to the advancement of women and gender equality in the maritime professions. In furtherance of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5, focused on gender equality, from 19-21 May 2025, WMU will host the University’s fourth conference focused on gender equality, “Advancing the Blue Economy Through Gender Equality.”
