Dr. Dalee Sambo Dorough [Inuit-Alaska] earned a PhD in Law from University of British Columbia, Faculty of Law (2002) and a Master of Arts in Law & Diplomacy, The Fletcher School, Tufts University (1991). She is former Chairperson of the Inuit Circumpolar Council [2018-2022] and presently a Senior Scholar and Special Advisor on Arctic Indigenous Peoples, University of Alaska Anchorage, where she was an Assistant Professor of International Relations. She has served as Chairperson (2014) and an Expert Member of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (2010-2016) and a co-Chair of the International Law Association (ILA) Committee on Implementation of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and has published contributions in the field of Indigenous human rights as well as Arctic Indigenous peoples, including an International Journal of Cultural Property article entitled \u201cWe are not in Geneva on the Human Rights Council: Indigenous peoples\u2019 experiences with the World Heritage Convention.\u201d Notably, Dorough is the 2022 International Arctic Science Committee Medallist, recognized for \u201coutstanding achievements in advocacy for the rights of Indigenous peoples, her service to a wide range of Arctic communities, including the Arctic Council, and her influence as a legal scholar.\u201d On 5 April 2023, her nomination to the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was confirmed by the Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
