She has a Law Degree and a Master&#8217;s Degree in Environmental Law from the University of Costa Rica; and a PhD from the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) Law School. Currently, she is a consultant to the Interamerican Association for Environmental Defense (AIDA), where she is responsible for coordinating with Latin American countries in the ratification of the new treaty on biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction. Mariamalia is also a senior postdoctoral fellow in the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institue. She is a member of the Group of Experts of the United Nations Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment, including Socioeconomic Aspects (Regular Process), and a member of the Legal and Technical Committee of the International Seabed Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>La Dra. Rodr\u00edguez Chaves tiene m\u00e1s de quince a\u00f1os de experiencia trabajando con organizaciones no gubernamentales ambientales y como consultora independiente en diversos temas ambientales. Tiene una Licenciatura en Derecho y una Maestr\u00eda en Derecho Ambiental de la Universidad de Costa Rica; y un doctorado en Derecho de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Nacional de Irlanda, Galway (NUIG). Actualmente, trabaja en la Asociaci\u00f3n Interamericana para la Defensa del Ambiente (AIDA), donde es responsable de coordinar con los pa\u00edses latinoamericanos la ratificaci\u00f3n de un nuevo tratado sobre biodiversidad en \u00e1reas fuera de la jurisdicci\u00f3n nacional. Mariamalia tambi\u00e9n es investigadora postdoctoral senior en el Instituto Oce\u00e1nico Global WMU-Sasakawa.
