He joined the Japan Coast Guard in 1988 as a cadet. After graduation from JCGA in 1992, he was assigned offshore and onshore posts. He has dedicated himself to maritime search and rescue (including diving and special operations), planning and countering terrorism and spy boats, law enforcement operations, and education of domestic and international Coast Guard officers. Captain Furuya holds an MSc in Maritime Affairs (Maritime Administration) from the World Maritime University, Malm\u00f6, Sweden (2003) and an MA in International Maritime Policy with Distinction from the University of Greenwich, London, United Kingdom (2012).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>El Capit\u00e1n Furuya es profesor en la Academia de la Guardia Costera de Jap\u00f3n (AGCJ), profesor adjunto en el Instituto Nacional de Graduados en Estudios Pol\u00edticos (GRIPS) y profesor visitante en la Universidad de Keio. Se uni\u00f3 a la Guardia Costera de Jap\u00f3n en 1988 como cadete. Despu\u00e9s de graduarse de la AGCJ en 1992, se le asignaron puestos en tierra y el alta mar. Se ha dedicado a la b\u00fasqueda y rescate mar\u00edtimo (incluido el buceo y operaciones especiales), la planificaci\u00f3n y lucha contra el terrorismo y los barcos esp\u00eda, las operaciones de aplicaci\u00f3n de la ley y la educaci\u00f3n de oficiales de la Guardia Costera nacional.
