She graduated from the University of Costa Rica and has made significant contributions both in her country of origin and at international level. In 2019, Mariana was selected as a fellow for the prestigious United Nations and Nippon Foundation Fellowship, an experience that further deepened her commitment to global policy issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout her career, Mariana has worked with various NGOs, including the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Bonn, Germany, where she contributed to impactful conservation initiatives. She also served as a Project Coordinator for the UN Fish Stocks Agreement (UNFSA) project of assistance, providing assistance through the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, she serves as an International Policy Officer at Global Fishing Watch, where she focuses on promoting sustainable fishing practices and supporting international policy by advocating for transparency. Mariana is also an active participant in the Homeward Bound Project initiative, where she is part of the 7th cohort set to embark on an expedition to Antarctica, aiming to advance women\u2019s leadership in science and conservation efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>Mariana Blanco es una abogada especializada en derecho ambiental y derecho del mar. Es egresada de la Universidad de Costa Rica y ha realizado importantes aportes tanto en su pa\u00eds de origen como a nivel internacional. En 2019, Mariana fue seleccionada como becaria de la prestigiosa beca de las Naciones Unidas y la Fundaci\u00f3n Nippon, una experiencia que profundiz\u00f3 a\u00fan m\u00e1s su compromiso con las cuestiones de pol\u00edtica global.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lo largo de su carrera, Mariana ha trabajado con varias ONG, incluida la Uni\u00f3n Internacional para la Conservaci\u00f3n de la Naturaleza (UICN) en Bonn, Alemania, donde contribuy\u00f3 a iniciativas de conservaci\u00f3n impactantes. Tambi\u00e9n se desempe\u00f1\u00f3 como Coordinadora de Proyecto para el proyecto de asistencia del Acuerdo de las Naciones Unidas sobre Poblaciones de Peces (UNFSA), brindando asistencia a trav\u00e9s de la Divisi\u00f3n de Asuntos Oce\u00e1nicos y del Derecho del Mar (DOALOS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Actualmente, se desempe\u00f1a como Oficial de Pol\u00edticas Internacionales en Global Fishing Watch, donde se enfoca en promover pr\u00e1cticas pesqueras sostenibles y apoyar la pol\u00edtica internacional abogando por la transparencia.
