Kentaro Nishimoto is Associate Professor of International Law at the School of Law, Tohoku University, Japan. He is currently in charge of the newly launched English-taught LL.M. program on the law of the sea. He received his Ph.D. in Law from the University of Tokyo with the thesis \u201cTerritoriality and Functionality in the Historical Evolution of the Law of the Sea.\u201d His research focuses on the international law of the sea, including issues such as the history of the law of the sea, sustainable
\ndevelopment of ocean resources and the settlement of maritime disputes.<\/p>\n
His recent publications in English include \u201cThe Rights and Interests of Japan in regard to Arctic Shipping\u201d in Robert C. Beckman et al. (eds.), Governance of Arctic Shipping: Balancing Rights and Interests of Arctic States and User States (Brill, 2017) and a contribution to Alexander Proel\u00df (ed.), The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea: A Commentary (Beck\/Hart\/Nomos, 2017).
